• If you’ve been following the latest happenings in electronic dance music, Avalon Emerson should ring a bell. The young San Francisco-based DJ and producer made a name for herself this year with her ambitious techno/ house productions “Milk Toast” and her remix of How To Dress Well’s “& It Was U” to name a few.

With support from the likes of XLR8R and Live For The Funk, it’s just a question of time, until the 23-year-old underground wunderkind reaches the top of the electronic music ladder. We’re honored to present an exclusive guest mix by the young up-and-comer, so sit back, put your headphones on and get lost in Avalon’s excellent selections for MTHRFNKR:

  • Rules - Guest Mix For MTHRFNKR

Rules is a talented new Washington DC-based producer, currently making waves in the music blogosphere with his self-titeled 3-track EP released on October 14th via his official Bandcamp. As Disconaivete pointed out last month, his stand-out track “Telepathy” is reminiscent of the sound landscapes of The Weeknd and Clams Casino.

The track “I’mPatient” on the other hand, progresses to a funky, more upbeat tempo around the 2-minute mark, perfectly capturing the spirit of Fantastic Mr Fox’s productions. A remix of Toro Y Moi’s “So Many Details” as well as Sango’s “The Differences” also belong to Rules’s portfolio, of which the latter is our favorite.

We invited Rules over to MTHRFNKR for an exclusive guest mix and a little chat, in which he told us that he is planning to release a new single later this month, as well as a new EP around January/February. While many labels have reached out to him, showing their support, he is currently not planning on signing to any label, pointing out that all of his music will be free. You can stream a few of these free tunes now exclusively on MTHRFNKR:

    1. Ginuwine – Hello
    2. Lapalux – 102 Hours of Introductions
    3. Rules – U Rain, I Thunder

  • Face + Heel Guest Mix For MTHRFNKRFace + Heel is Luke Taylor and Sinead McMillen, an electronic duo from London/ Cardiff that is signed to Warm Records. With the intimacy of The xx and the intellectual ambiance of Mount Kimbie they’ve conquered my heart within seconds. One of their outstanding tracks is “One Hundred Years Deep”, it is recommended that you stop everything you’re doing right now and stream the track in full below, it’s mesmerizing:

Blaise Beville, co-founder of Boiler Room, has recommended these guys to me after I’ve asked him who is going to blow up soon. There is no doubt that he was right. Face + Hell have just started to make rounds in the blogosphere, but once their debut drops, which they will start recording in February 2013, they’re going to be huge. I discovered the duo in April and 4 months later I’m proud to present a mix that Luke and Sinead have compiled for MTHRFNKR. It features new artists they like, music that inspires them and an exclusive, previously unheard track by them called “Warm Blooded Days”:
